What should I be vigilant about before going through with it?" - A guide based upon what I would have wanted to know before undergoing eye muscle surgeryMichael Lievenshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04322577959888347184noreply@blogger.comBlogger3125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2865728535786772093.post-24301224362392879062015-05-18T07:07:49.353-07:002015-05-18T07:07:49.353-07:00I have undergone the surgery at the age of 7. I do...I have undergone the surgery at the age of 7. I don't remember any deterioration in sight coordination following afterwards (I guess it was as bad as it had been before, but I didn't care then, I was glad not to be cross-eyed anymore).
However, I thought the surgery was going to get me rid of glasses (or so they told me), and it did not. I felt that as the greatest deception and since then I've hated all eye doctors and glasses and eventually stopped wearing glasses for good in teenage years.
In the meantime, one of my eyes became short-sighted and I nearly stopped using it and lost the ability to use both eyes at the same time almost completely.
Now, aged 21, I finally realized that I do need binocular vision (I don't feel safe when driving in the first place) and mourn the wasted years.
However, I don't think there is anything that could have prevented my state - there's no point in telling a teenage girl to visit VT all the time and wear glasses she hates when she sees clearly and her crossed eyes aren't visible to her peers.
Maybe it would have helped to tell the 7-year-old the truth about what was wrong with her vision and what the surgery could and could not change (I was bright enough to get that) instead of stating that we did it all because crossed eyes don't look nice. Maybe.

Lots of hard work ahead now.
Thank you for this website, it made couple more things clear to me.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13590719910199613410noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2865728535786772093.post-14067924501574187412015-01-16T07:23:17.627-08:002015-01-16T07:23:17.627-08:00Thanx for sharing such a helpful article.
